Once, the proud Eagle spoke to her when she was all alone, and she never told anyone but Eclipse.
~*~
In-Character: Trout trotted through the woods, and she stopped beneath a huge tree. Far up in the branches, she could see a huge bundle of sticks. It was a nest. An Eagle nest. She sat down and stared up at the nest. She jumped up as the mother eagle's cry rent the air. The majestic bird landed in her nest with a large fish in her claws, and Trout heard rather than saw the baby devouring the fish with gusto. Trout licked her chops and sighed as she lay down in the sweet smelling grass. She was really hungry, so she'd have to go catch a rabbit or something soon. Midafternoon sun broke through the tree cover to warm Trout's thin glossy coat. She could feel the eagle's penetrating amber gaze pin her to the ground. Slowly, she stood and shook pine needles out of her fur and met the eagle's golden eyes with her own. for a moment both stood frozen, then the eagle flew down and landed on a branch not far above Trout's head.
"hello," Trout whispered.
The eagle titled her head for a moment, then she spoke. "Hello, wolf."
Trout stared at the eagle with wide blue eyes for a moment before she regained her tongue. She felt honored that the great bird would fly down to speak with her, a lowly pup. her tail began to wag slowly.
"um.. i hope you had good hunting today," Trout said politely. though she had always wanted to speak with the eagle, she had never thoguht of what to say.
The eagle laughed softly. "I did indeed, wolf. I hope you have good hunting as well." the eagle stpped to examine one lethal black talon, then continued speaking. "Be bleassed, wolf, with the spirit of the eagle. Fight with vigor and courage, laugh with ease, be kind to those weaker than you, and be wise and cunning in the days to come. Fight for what you know is right, and always return to the light. Farewell wolf. We will not meet again." the eagle suddenly leapt from her perch. she zoomed down to Trout and swooped above the astonished wolf's head. Trout watched her go with eyes read y to pop out of her head, when a long fether gently wafted down to her on the breeze. she touched the feather with her nose, and a tingling feeling spread throughout her body as she heard the mother eagle screech to the skies far above her. she gently took the feather in her mouth, and she ran off to sunset Ridge to show Eclipse. he wasn't there when she arrived, so she set the feather on a rock and set about digging a deep hole to bury the feather for safe-keeping. She dropped the feather in the hole, and slowly kicked soft dirt over it.
